The key pair is encrypted with 3DES with a password supplied by the user during key generation. The N in RSA is 2048 bits long. The reader should note that this is the same procedure as the generation of the CA key–pair. For sample key–pairs, please see the appendices listed in the section called Generate the RSA key–pair for the CA. This tutorial will walk through the process of creating your own self-signed certificate. You can use this to secure network communication using the SSL/TLS protocol. For example, to run an HTTPS server. If you don't need self-signed certificates and want trusted signed certificates, check out my LetsEncrypt SSL Tutorial for a walkthrough of how to get free signed certificates.
- I have to implement a 'professional' version. This includes creating a RSA private key. Based on that key I have to create a certificate and upload it to the webserver. I'm on a Windows machine and completely confused what to do. I took a look at the OpenSSL website, because the manual forwarded me to that website to get a SSL Toolkit.
- Jul 09, 2019 The key code is contained within a server.key file, that can be opened with a text editor, such as Notepad. Webmin works as a graphic user interface (GUI) on top of the command-line interface. There is also a file manager called Filemin, that you can use to browse the server file system and find your Private Key file.

I just checked the code for PHP 7.1 and in there openssl_free_key is an alias for opnessl_pkey_free (PHP_FALIAS).
This supports Richards assumption.
I would also suggest to not use the alias,
but use the openssl_pkey_free function in new code.
This is because it is more descriptive about what its intend is and is the same structure as similar function in the openssl section.

openssl_free_key and openssl_pkey_free are probably aliases.
And the preferred one is probably openssl_pkey_free.
